The "Whole Child" Approach The primary goal of Hudson is to help each child reach full potential in all areas of life, through-out their life. Lessons promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation. The curriculum, under the direction of a specially prepared teacher, allows the child to experience the joy of learning, time to enjoy the process and ensure the development of self-esteem, and provides the experiences from which children create their knowledge.
The "Family" Approach At Hudson, you are our extended family. Hudson, unlike other programs that allow you to drop off your child and let “them educate them”, encourages the “It takes a village” statement.  It takes more than a vigorous curriculum to allow the child or young teen to grow into a fully independent, capable human being, one that dreams they can do anything and then goes out to prove that they actually can.  It takes nurturing, caring and compassion for all areas of his life.  Parents are welcome to come in and share their stories, concerns and feeling whenever they need.  Doors are never locked and a warm hand is always offered.
The "Learning" Approach Each Montessori class, from toddlers through Middle school, operates on the principle of freedom within limits. Every program has its set of ground rules, which differs from age to age, but is always based on core Montessori beliefs-respect for each other and for the environment.

I went to Hudson for a total of three years in the mid-nineties. I have very fond memories of my time there and am truly grateful for the unique experience a Montessori school provided me with. Hudson was a perfect-size school and we were such a mixture of nationalities and ethnicites that I was really comfortable in school.

From a young toddler to a young adult, I have watched myself mature into the dedicated, smart, optimistic, confident, and unique individual I am today. I believe I would not have been able to discover these qualities without the help of the education and teachers of my past.

When I remember my days at Hudson Country Montessori School, I think not only of the top-notch teachers, but also of events such as the harvest festival, the not-so-annual pie day, and the end of the year field trip, that helped to bring our classroom and school as close together...

Hudson Country Montessori School

Hudson Country Montessori School has built a reputation for challenging students to exceed expectations. Every Parent wants a happy child who excels both academically and socially.  Since 1972, children from 18 months to middle school have blossomed by attending Hudson Country Montessori School.

Hudson Country Montessori School uses anchildren learning individualized teaching method to challenge and inspire each child to their highest intellectual and moral potential. This approach is rooted in the teaching methods of Dr. Maria Montessori, a non-sectarian educator, who observed that no two students learn at the same pace nor do they necessarily learn best from the same methods.  The Montessori classroom is organized into work centers where individual and small group instruction make the student the focal point of education.

Although Hudson offers rigorous academics, we also challenge our students to develop conviction in the attainment of strong moral and ethical values.  We teach students to lead others with integrity, to possess strength of character and to be compassionate for those who are less fortunate.

When not engaged in an individual or small group lesson, students are expected to work independently or collaboratively exercising a level of self-discipline that is rarely seen in traditional education.  Students that are new to Montessori may find this difficult at first but our teachers are trained to inspire passion and enthusiasm for learning by tailoring the curriculum to the special interests of each student.  As you can imagine, students working on material that interests him/her are more motivated and typically work one to two years ahead of grade level.

Our classrooms are rich with opportunities for hands-on experiential learning that are strategically set out by the teachers to inspire interest and learning.  These opportunities for learning are continually renewed, replaced or modified to lead students along the school’s rigorous curriculum.

Our teaching staff believes in and promotes personal excellence through rigorous academics and the development of the individual character. Hudson Country Montessori School is the only school in the state of Connecticut to be accredited by three nationally recognized accrediting agencies for the quality of the curriculum, teaching and student outcomes.  While many schools claim to be “Montessori” schools, Hudson Country Montessori is one of only seven nationally recognized Montessori schools and the only accredited Montessori school in North Western Connecticut.  In addition to being accredited by the American Montessori Society, the school is also accredited by the prestigious New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Hudson Country Montessori School is both a school and a community of learners where adults and students work together for mutual support.  We seek to inspire high self-esteem, a passion for excellence, the ability for students to think for themselves and to think outside traditional lines of thinking.  While this goes beyond the scope of traditional education, we recognize that our younger students need to be prepared to function in a world that will be advanced beyond our wildest imagination.  We also recognize that demands on parents from jobs and society make parenting ever-more difficult and the school community provides for the particular needs of working families.

Hudson Country Montessori School was founded 37 years ago in New Rochelle, NY and opened the Danbury campus 14 years ago.  Our international student body represents more than 30 different countries and nearly every major world religion.  For more information, call our Danbury, CT campus at 203-744-8088, or New Rochelle, NY campus at 914-636-6202.  You can also always visit our website at www.hudsoncountry.org
