Learning the right answers will get you through school. Learning how to learn will get you through life! Hudson teaches students to think, not simply to memorize, feedback, and forget. The basis of our approach is the simple observation that children learn most effectively through direct personal experience and the process of investigation and discovery. No two students learn at the same pace, nor do they necessarily learn best from the same methods. Our goal is to be flexible and creative in addressing each student as a unique individual. We recognize that before students can take advantage of a challenging education, they have to discover their innate abilities.
They need to develop a strong sense of independence, and self-discipline. They must be willing to make and learn from their countless mistakes. This suggests an education of the heart, as much as an education of the mind. Hudson Country Montessori School is a school where children blossom! We seek to inspire a passion for excellence and to nurture curiosity, creativity and imagination. Our goal is not only to give students a fine education, but to prepare them for life. Former students from our New Rochelle, New York campus have gone off to succeed in high school and college. But more importantly, they live lives filled with quiet dignity and compassion for others. Beginning with the habit of community service instilled during their years at Hudson, our graduates will build a legacy of kindness and wonderful contributions to the world. We know that this goes beyond the scope of traditional education, but then, the Hudson Country Montessori School is a rather unusual school. Hudson Country Montessori School was founded on three principles: that every child would feel safe, secure and loved in the classroom so that learning could progress without distraction; that tuition would be affordable so that every child could have access to their program and experience the benefits of a broadly diverse student population; and, third that the teaching methodology would be Montessori. Our faculty deeply believes in the human potential. We treat even our youngest child with respect as a full and complete individual. Our task as a school is to help each student discover and develop the unique talents and possibilities that are his/her birthright. We are non-profit, nonsectarian, co-educational, and have been completely integrated from the day we were founded. Our international student body represents more than 30 different countries and nearly every ethnic group and major world religion. It almost goes without saying that we do not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, color, disability, age, national or ethnic origin in the consideration of new applications or in the daily life of the school. This web site is intended to give you an initial sense of who we are as a school. Hopefully, we have both kindled your interest and stirred up a few thoughts about education in general. No school can be right for every child. Our goal is to find the right fit between student, family and our school. We feel that we can meet this goal by allowing families who are interested in Hudson to consider us on the basis of solid information. We have attempted to make a good beginning in the pages that follow. We welcome the opportunity to meet and show you our school. Please visit our Contact Us page to arrange your first visit.
