Why A Montessori Summer Camp?

You are here: Home / Blog / Why A Montessori Summer Camp?

Summer; a season for slowing down, spending long days outdoors, making new friends, embarking on fresh adventures.  Why consider sending your child to a school-based camp? Well, if it’s a Montessori camp, summer is the perfect time to stimulate your child’s natural curiosity with discovery-based programming that encourages exploration.

A summer camp which follows the Montessori Method offers exciting opportunities for rich outdoor experiences. “When children are outside, their senses are stimulated. They can explore by touching, seeing, hearing, even tasting. This awakens the senses and calls the child to come explore, creating a sense of awe and wonder that will be important throughout life. Developing an appreciation for nature, children grow to be respectful of the earth.” – Montessori.com.

If your child enjoys Montessori education through the school year, think about this; we know that consistency is an essential element within every child’s life. Continuing basic patterns established during the traditional school year throughout the summer can only bolster your child’s interior sense of order and organization.

What if your child is not currently enrolled in a Montessori school?  Not a problem.  The Montessori tenets of hands-on exploration, physical activity, inquiry and discovery ring true universally, especially in the expansive summer season.  And if you’ve ever wondered how your child might fare in a traditional Montessori setting, summer camp might be a gentle way of finding out without the constraints of indoor classroom life.

Both Hudson Country Montessori School campuses offer Summer Camp options that fit your schedule and budget.  Weekly sessions include field trips (Maritime Center, Sherwood Island, Bronx Zoo, CT Children’s Museum, Science on the Sound, to name a few…), theme-based programming, swim and sport instruction, science and literature.  Half-day options are available for our young campers, and Counselor-in-Training positions are open at the New Rochelle campus.

Check it out.  See how a Montessori-based camp can, simply, make your child’s summer!
