This page provides an overview of how private school transportation works in Westchester County and New York City, and the options available to Hudson Country families.
Transportation typically falls into one of three categories:
1. Public School District Transportation (LOCAL School District)
In many Westchester towns, families may qualify for district-provided transportation under New York State law when distance requirements are met and a written request is submitted by April 1 each year. Eligibility, routing, and service details are determined by your home public school district. Families must apply annually, as transportation does not automatically renew.
If you live in a city school district, such as New Rochelle, Yonkers, Mr Vernon or NYC, transportation policies may differ and should be confirmed directly with your district.

2. Private Transportation
When district transportation is not available, some families explore private bus or van services. Private transportation is arranged directly by families and is typically an out-of-pocket expense. Availability, routes, and pricing vary depending on location and number of riders. Hudson Country does not operate or supervise private transportation services.
LT Transportation (Mount Vernon) is a local private transportation company that provides bussing to HCMS:

3. Carpooling With Other HCMS Families
Many families coordinate carpools within their neighborhoods. If you share your town with us, we are happy to help connect current and prospective families who may be interested in shared transportation. All carpool arrangements are coordinated directly between families.
We are here to support both current and prospective families as you plan for the year ahead. Please contact our Admissions Office if we can assist you with transportation questions or community connections.
